Cansec's innovative access control
device using SecuGen's optical fingerprint sensor and
software wins award at ISC
Milpitas, CA (August 29, 2002)
- SecuGen Corporation, one of the world's leading providers
of biometric fingerprint recognition solutions, today
announced that a SecuGen OEM partner, Cansec Systems Ltd.,
won a Product Achievement Award for Biometrics at the
recent International Security Conference & Exposition,
August 14 - 16, in Orlando, FL.
"We are delighted to have our Zodiac
SmartCard fingerprint reader recognized by the Security
Industry Association (SIA) with this prestigious award.
The Zodiac is the culmination of over 15 years of experience
in the design of leading-edge access control products,"
says Fred Dawber, president of Cansec. "A very important
element of the design is the rugged, high-performance
optical fingerprint sensor from SecuGen. SecuGen's optical
sensor provides an unmatched level of durability and accuracy
that is crucial in physical access control applications."
The Zodiac reads a fingerprint
template stored in a contactless smart card or in a small
stick-on "BioPatch" which can be affixed to existing access
cards or devices. The BioPatch uses ISO 15693 contactless
smart card technology for portable template storage providing
up to 3 inches of read range. Because Zodiac does not
store templates in memory, there are no user capacity
limitations or additional wiring needed. Zodiac installation
is "plug and play" which allows existing conventional
readers to be replaced within five minutes with no changes
to the access control panel, host software or wiring.
"Retrofitting conventional access control systems with
ones that are based on fingerprint biometrics is a very
fast growing market," says Dawber. "Cansec's Zodiac product
with the BioPatch option now gives customers a convenient
method to immediately implement more secure, non-repudiable
access control."
"The solution Cansec has developed
and successfully marketed is yet another testament to
the fact that fingerprint biometrics is not a technology
option but a business requirement within the physical
access marketplace. The reliability and accuracy of optical
fingerprint biometrics has made this technology become
the recommended standard in the physical access market.
We congratulate Cansec for their innovation in combining
the latest in biometric, smartcard/RF, and security software
technology into an award-winning physical access control
solution," says James Sortino, worldwide vice president
of sales for SecuGen. "The SecuGen optical sensor and
software deliver the reliability, durability and accuracy
that are critical to the successful implementation and
deployment of access control solutions."
