SecuGen releases
new fingerprint device for enterprise network security
Desktop device and software add
security and user convenience for network authentication.
Milpitas, CA (June 18, 2002) -
SecuGen Corporation, one of the world's leading providers
of biometric fingerprint recognition systems, announced
today a new model of fingerprint input device in its Hamster
series. The popular Hamster is a standalone desktop fingerprint
scanner used to increase security and user convenience
in accessing corporate network, intranet, extranet and
Internet applications.
An innovative "finger guide" in
the new Hamster makes it easy to position any finger for
both left- and right-handed people. Its light weight and
portability make it ideal for use with laptop and desktop
computers. The compact, ergonomic design includes a removable,
weighted base and stand. Combined with SecuGen's state-of-the-art
fingerprint image processing and matching algorithms,
the Hamster recognizes virtually everyone's fingerprint
accurately and reliably, even when the user has very dry,
wet, scarred or soiled fingers.
The Hamster comes with either a
USB or parallel port interface with no external power
required. Standard color is black with special colors
available for large orders. The Hamster is compatible
with Windows operating systems (95/98/Me/NT4.0/2000/XP),
Windows CE for the USB model, and Linux for the parallel
model. Currently, the Hamster is one of the few biometric
devices approved to carry the Designed for Microsoft Windows
XP logo.
SecuGen offers customers a variety
of enterprise software choices to use with the Hamster
for biometric authentication.
According to Dan Riley, SecuGen
vice president of software development, "We also offer
software development kits that allow programmers to quickly
and easily build software applications that incorporate
SecuGen's fingerprint recognition technology in applications
on many operating systems ranging from Microsoft Windows
CE 3.0 through Windows XP and also various Linux versions.
Developer's kits include a module for easy integration
into OEM products, SecuBSP for Web and rapid application
development, and BioAPI BSP for support of industry standards
including the BioAPI 1.1 standard and the Common Biometric
Exchange File Format (CBEFF)."
"SecuGen is now introducing a new
option for an extended warranty on the Hamster sensor.
This raises the bar for competition and offers SecuGen
customers superior value by providing the best biometric
peripheral warranty in the industry. SecuGen's standard
1-year warranty and extended sensor warranty option is
a testament to the Hamster's proven reliability and durability,"
stated James Sortino, vice president of sales.
The precision-manufactured optical
sensor is maintenance free and incorporates an impact-
and scratch-resistant sensor surface that is extremely
durable in a myriad of environments. Unlike other biometric
sensors, there is no wear mechanism, the sensor has no
surface coating to be maintained, and it is not susceptible
to damage from electrostatic discharge (ESD). The Hamster
also passes stringent shock resistance and drop tests.
List price for the new Hamster
starts at $119 for the USB model and $109 for the parallel
model. The product is now released and production quantities
are available.
