SecuGen
puts your ID at your fingertips at The Tech Museum of Innovation
in San Jose
- Innovative,
versatile, and compact security modules can open computers
or doors, only for you.
San
Jose, CA (July 6, 2000) - How often have you scanned your
memory for a password or PIN number, or fumbled for a key
or ATM card, to open up your computer, gain access to a work
area, or simply get cash for a movie? It's there, somewhere,
but not always at your fingertips. And it's probably not as
secure as you would like.
On
July 8th and 9th,
you can try
out a new way to have all the access you need from computers
to your front door, at The Tech Museum of Innovation. Not only will your password, access code
and PIN number literally be at your fingertips, it will also
be reassuringly and uniquely secure. All thanks to some new
and very clever biometric fingerprint recognition devices
developed by San Jose-based SecuGen Corporation.
Visitors will
be invisted to discover the power of their fingerprints at
SecuGen's hands-on exhibit at The Tech Museum's Communication
Gallery. By scanning their fingers using a sensor no bigger
than a fingernail and displaying their fingerprints on a big
screen TV monitor, visitors can explore the unique characteristics
of their fingerprints. Their fingerprints will be the key
to making things happen with computers and to activating other
applications in the exhibit. SecuGen products and software
will also be demonstrated.
Biometrics
is an automated technology that recognizes an individual based
on his or her physical characteristics. SecuGen's fingerprint
recognition devices are integrated into hardware products
such as the EyeD Mouse. SecuGen's patent-pending optical
sensor and fingerprint identification software can provide
optimum security, combined with convenience and ease-of-use,
ranging from large enterprise systems, to your own on-line
shoppping, or even your garage door. No more searching your
memory, purse or pockets for the right key or password.
Following
this display and demonstration, SecuGen's innovative fingerprint
recognition technology will be showcased in a demonstration
unit which will be added to The Tech Museum's Curiosity Counter
collection, featuring new technologies on a rotational basis.
The Tech Museum of Innovation is located at 201 South Market
Street in downtown San Jose, phone (408) 294-TECH (8324).
