SecuGen's
EyeD family of peripherals first to optimize IT security
utilizing biometric technology
New
single-user computer desktop peripherals are first to provide
unique fingerprint identification security
San Jose,
CA (February 7, 2000) - SecuGen Corporation, a leading global
developer, manufacturer and supplier of biometric fingerprint
imaging systems and devices, releases the new EyeD family of
desk-top, biometric peripherals: the EyeD Mouse,
EyeD Keyboard, and EyeD Hamster. Any
password-based application may be easily and economically replaced
or enhanced with these new peripherals, throughout the office
or workplace.
The EyeD
Mouse, EyeD Keyboard and EyeD Hamster rely on a physical characteristic
unique to each individual - the fingerprint. This alleviates
the need for passwords, keycards and PIN-numbers that can be
lost, forgotten or even broken into.
SecuGen's
new family of products can readily and economically provide
security in applications ranging from individual laptops, desktop
computers, to enterprise-wide LAN and WAN systems vital to corporate
and e-commerce needs today. They
incorporate SecuGen's patent-pending optical prism and fingerprint
identification software to provide optimum security at the desktop
level with convenience and ease-of-use in a very durable product.
"These
new and versatile, advanced biometric technology products offer
the most flexible and cost-effective fingerprint recognition
solution for computer security available on the market today,"
stated Ann Walker, VP of marketing at SecuGen. "Versatility
is the key here. Their adaptation is limited only by the security
needs and imagination of their users," Walker added.
The fingerprint
recognition module in SecuGen's EyeD Mouse, EyeD Keyboard and
EyeD Hamster scans each individual's fingerprint. Data points
from the live 3-D image are captured and converted into a unique
mathematical template processed by SecuGen's proprietary algorithm
software. Computers and IT systems recognize the user, and allow
access, only by the unique encrypted data description of their
fingerprint, in less than one second.
The EyeD
Mouse offers biometric security built-in to a pointing device
common to most users' desks. It readily connects to each computer's
PS/2 and parallel ports with pass-through functionality. A version
for USB applications will be available this spring.
The EyeD
Hamster offers the user the flexibility to work with her or
his favorite mouse or trackball, while securing their computer
or workstation with its fingerprint identification technology.
It offers the option of USB or parallel port and PS/2 connection.
SecuGen's
new EyeD Keyboard is the first fully functional keyboard to
offer biometric security for PCs and networks at the touch of
a finger. It features a less than one second verification speed
and PS/2 and parallel port connection with pass-through functionality
or USB connection.
These
unique peripherals require no external power supply and are
built to meet the rigors of dirty environments such as warehouses,
industrial sites, commercial and office workplaces. The patent-pending
optical prism is specially designed to resist distortions caused
by dirt, oil and moisture build-up for reliable user identification
at all times.
Having
the fingerprint recognition module built in to the compact EyeD
peripherals eliminates the need for additional
and often bulky biometric devices in the workplace.
