San Jose, CA (January 24, 2000) - SecuGen
Corporation, a leading global developer, manufacturer and
supplier of biometric and fingerprint imaging systems and
devices, announced the introduction of two new fingerprint
recognition modules, the FDP01 and FDU01 for parallel and
universial serial bus (USB) applications.
SecuGen's advanced, versatile and compact
modules provide security enhancement for computers and networks,
as well as other devices and products where access or use
by authorized users is desired. Many password, PIN or keyword
identification and verification systems may be easily and
economically replaced or enhanced with these new devices.
SecuGen's compact, rugged fingerprint recognition modules
and industry standard software protocols allow for adaptation
or design into existing or new products with biometric security
functions.
Instead of passwords,
PIN-numbers, keycards or keypads that can be stolen, forgotten
or even broken into, SecuGen identification modules
rely on a physical characteristic unique to each individual
in the company or workplace their fingerprint.
SecuGen's FDP01 and FDU01 modules rely on a characteristic
that is unique to each individual - the fingerprint. They
incorporate SecuGen's patent-pending optical prism and fingerprint
identification software to provide optimum security with convenience
and ease-of-use in a very durable product.
"These new and versatile, advanced
biometric technology products offer the most flexible and
cost-effective fingerprint recognition solutions on the market
today for developers or vendors where security is critical,
or where they can add to the functionality of their products
and services," stated Ann Walker, VP Marketing at SecuGen.
"Versatility is the key here. Their adaptation to new
and enhanced products and security applications is limited
only by the security needs and imagination of their users,"
Walker added.
SecuGen's FDP01 and FDU01 modules work
by scanning a live 3-D fingerprint from which data points
are converted into a unique mathematical template processed
by SecuGen's proprietary algorithm software. Users are recognized
and allowed access only by the unique encrypted data description
of their fingerprint, in less than half a second.
The FDP01 module is available for ECP
or EPP parallel ports or PS/2 port. The FDU01 module is designed
for USB applications. Both work with any Windows 95/98/NT4.x
operating systems and use the computer to create the fingerprint
template database. Industry standard communications protocols
such as RS-232, RS-485 and Wiegand make adaptation and installation
easier. The modules have been integrated into time and attendance
machines, door locks, access control systems, ATMs computer
peripherals and other security-sensitive applications.
SecuGen's unique biometric devices
require no external power supply and are built to meet the
rigors of dirty environments such as warehouses, industrial
sites, and commercial and office workplaces. The patent-pending
optical prism is specially designed to resist distortions
caused by dirt, oil and moisture build-up for reliable user
identification at all times. Their compact size allows installation
in many devices with small housings.
Developer Kits, with source code and
demonstration software, and Evaluation Kits, with demonstration
software only, are available for these new SecuGen biometric
modules.
